Today on Sunday Supper Super Stars: Betsy from Desserts Required
Who is Betsy: I am someone who walks into a restaurant and asks to see the dessert menu before I am able to order my meal. Hearing about a new bakery or chocolate shop entices me to visit, no matter how far out of the way it is. I love reading about desserts and sweets. I love watching someone create something beautiful and delicious out of common ingredients and don’t get me started about what is done with the ‘odd’ ingredient. Wow! I love finding and ordering treats from all over, eagerly awaiting their arrival and discovering if I feel like the reality lives up to the hype.
Her favorite #SundaySupper theme (or recipe) so far: I made Coffee Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake Squares the first time I participated in #SundaySupper and that post has such a special place in my heart. I had been sharing everyone else’s posts since I came home from the incredible Food and Wine Conference 2013, where I met so many members of the Sunday Supper family. Yet, it was not until months later when Isabel asked me why I had NOT been participating, that I realized it was time to do just that.
Her most popular #SundaySupper post: My Grilled Mascarpone Chocolate Cherry Bread with Blackberry Cabernet Compote post was my most popular, in addition to being another one of my two favorites (along with the Cheesecake Squares). This event was sponsored by Gallo Family Vineyards and the theme was grilled cheese. I was so excited to work with GFV and had a great time turning a food item generally considered a main course, into a dessert. Plus, the blackberry cabernet compote is out of this world!
Fun Facts: I have four amazing children…three ‘bigs’ – 23, 21 and 18 and one ‘little’ – 8 year old Samuel. To answer the next question, YES, Samuel was actually the most planned!
I have always loved baking but I used to be a horrendous cook. When I was first married, there were four options when it came to dinner…bring in; eat out; my ex-husband cooked; fend for ourselves. I loved the last option as it meant I had dessert for dinner.
I participated in four – 60 mile 3-Day for the Cure walks and still love to walk.
