We are excited for National Sunday Supper Month in January and National Sunday Supper Day on Jan. 10 and are planning a lot of fun events. The goal of Sunday Supper Month and Day is to encourage families to spend time around the table and create new family traditions.
In honor of the monthlong celebration of Sunday Suppers, we are asking people to complete this question: I cook because …
So far, we’ve gotten responses from cookbook authors, HSN hosts, home cooks and chefs. Cookbook author and James Beard hall of famer Nathalie Dupree answered, with her usual wit, I cook because “I like my own cooking, better than just about anyone’s.”
Heather McPherson, food editor of the Orlando Sentinel in Florida, responded: “I cook because it encourages creativity and community. It’s such a gratifying thing to serve a meal. I love having any excuse to gather family and friends around a table or share a gift of food.”
We are hungry for more responses and will be compiling them for a Sunday Supper feature in January. Please leave your response as a comment on this story. We look forward to hearing from you.
