How to Make Caesar Salad
- If making your own chicken, start by grilling or baking the chicken breasts until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Dice the lettuce, chicken, and hard boiled egg, if using. Add everything but the chicken to a bowl, then drizzle with dressing and toss.
- Add the sliced chicken, heated if desired, and serve!
What’s in a Caesar salad?
At its most basic, a Caesar salad has three ingredients: romaine lettuce, croutons, and classic Caesar dressing, which is a a creamy salad dressing typically using Parmesan cheese and anchovy paste as a part of its distinctive flavor.
However, Caesar salads can come in many varieties, and there are tons of great add-ins you can use to make your salad even more delicious!
Don’t be afraid to add more! I love my salads with sliced hard boiled eggs, and a generous topping of sliced grilled chicken to add protein. You can even add cherry tomatoes or red bell pepper for a little extra flavor!
Make Caesar Salad Ahead of Time
Caesar salad is a great dinner party salad recipe for feeding a crowd, and with this 5-minute salad recipe, it is even easier to make ahead of time.
Prepare and store all of the ingredients separately: the chopped lettuce, dressing, and any sliced or shredded chicken you may be using.
When you’re ready to serve, add everything to a large salad bowl and mix. You do not want to dress the salad or add the croutons until serving.
Caesar Salad Recipes Tips
- When you’re grilling your own chicken, get creative with seasoning! I love using cajun seasoning to add a little spice and zest to the salad.
- Make sure to buy Parmesan shavings, not shreds. The shavings add a tender chew to the salad with tons of savory flavor.
- To make this meal as quick and easy as possible, hard-boiled eggs can be bought already prepared at the store. If you have time and access to them, however, it’s worth making your own, especially if you have access to farm eggs- it makes a difference!
- Don’t feel limited on what chicken you use, especially in a pinch! Rotisserie works great too, or even shredded chicken.
Homemade Caesar Salad FAQs
Caesar salad dressing is a unique creamy dressing made with garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire, mustard, mayonnaise, Parmesan, and the key ingredient, anchovy paste. The anchovy paste and Parmesan are what give this dressing its unique and incredible flavor!
Anchovy paste is a key ingredient for Caesar dressing, and thus almost all dressings of this style will contain it. However, some brands that are allergy friendly can provide anchovy-free replacements using other ingredients to mimic the flavor.
