Au Gratin Potatoes


- 2 lbs. Yukon gold potatoes - 4 Tbsp. unsalted butter - 1 Tbsp minced garlic - 1 1/2 cups heavy cream - 1/2 lb. Gruyere cheese - 2 Tsp. thyme leaves - 1 Tsp. kosher salt - 1/2 Tsp. cracked black pepper

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt 1 Tbsp butter in a hot skillet. Once melted, add 1 Tsp minced garlic.

Step 2

Spread half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the skillet. Top with 3/4 cup heavy cream, 3/4 cup Gruyere cheese, 1 Tbsp cubed butter, thyme, salt and pepper.

Step 3

The next layer add the remaining potatoes, cream, salt, pepper, butter, and thyme, finishing up with the remaining cheese on top.

Step 4

Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender. Remove the foil and bake for 15 minutes, until the top has a golden crust.
