Broccoli in the Air Fryer
Cooking broccoli in the air fryer is an easy and quick way to prepare a delicious side dish for your dinner table! If you haven’t tried air-fried broccoli yet, I’m sure you’ll love it. It turns out tender yet crispy, and incredibly flavorful.
The first time I air-fried broccoli was on a busy weekday when I needed a quick side dish. I had only planned the main course – oops! Despite my skepticism, I gave it a try and tossed the broccoli florets in the air fryer. Surprisingly, they turned out even better than my usual roasted broccoli!
With just a handful of broccoli crowns, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper, you can whip up a veggie side dish that’s not only tasty but might also win over your picky eaters. Plus, it’s completely customizable to your liking!
Ingredients for Air Frying Broccoli
- Broccoli Crowns
- Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
- Salt; I recommend Maldon Sea Salt Flakes
- Pepper
Simple olive oil, salt, and pepper is all you need to make delicious roasted broccoli in the air fryer. But, if you want to try other flavorings, you can! Any of your usual favorites will work for this air fryer broccoli recipe, like a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and Parmesan cheese, or tossed with garlic butter. Mix things up according to taste!
How to Air Fry Broccoli
- Cut the broccoli crowns into bite-sized florets using a knife or kitchen scissors, then place them in a large bowl.
- Drizzle the florets with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Toss thoroughly to ensure an even coating, as broccoli florets tend to absorb oil.
- Arrange the broccoli in a single layer on the air fryer’s tray or basket. Cook at 400°F for 8 minutes. Remove the basket, toss the broccoli, then return to the fryer and cook for another 8 minutes.
- After cooking, allow the broccoli to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
Air Fried Broccoli Recipe Tips
- Cut your broccoli florets to roughly the same size so they cook evenly in the air fryer.
- Mix the broccoli with the oil to distribute the seasonings evenly.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. If you’re cooking a large amount, split it up into batches so the broccoli can cook properly.
- Halfway through the cooking time, shake the basket or use tongs to toss the broccoli florets so they cook evenly on all sides.
- Adjust the seasonings to your liking. A pinch of garlic powder is a great way to add flavor if you want a little extra without adding too much. Or, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for spice.
- Try serving it with a dressing drizzled over it – like my Balsamic glaze!
Can I cook Frozen Broccoli in the Air Fryer?
I’m using fresh broccoli in this recipe, but you can use frozen broccoli, too. You can cook it straight out of the freezer at 400°F for 8 minutes. Season and shake the broccoli after the first 8 minutes, then cook for another 10-15 minutes.
Keep an eye on it so it does not burn. It should be bright green, tender broccoli with a crisp texture.
If you thaw your frozen broccoli first, be sure to pat it completely dry to remove any excess moisture before tossing with oil and seasoning. This helps it crisp up better in the air fryer.
Storing Leftover Air Fried Broccoli
- Allow the leftover broccoli to cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the broccoli to an airtight container.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
- For best results, reheat in the air fryer or oven to maintain crispiness.
Isabel’s Air Fryer
It’s amazing what you can cook with an air fryer! I love mine and highly recommend it. It even has a steaming function to re-hydrate stale bread!

Broccoli Air Fryer FAQs
You can easily cut broccoli by slicing the broccoli first at the stems to separate the florets from the base. Slice large florets to cut them to an even size with smaller pieces. A sharp chef’s knife works best for this.
Air fried broccoli is done when it’s tender, with a slightly crispy, golden edge. This usually takes 16 minutes at 400°F, but all air fryer models vary. You may want to adjust the timing depending on your desired crispiness.
