Restaurant Ranch Recipe
I could eat wings plain, but I love them so much more with a dip on the side - especially ranch dressing. When I served my crispy buffalo wings for a game day party and realized I was out of ranch, I decided to make my own, and I've been making homemade ranch since! It's safe to say making ranch dressing at home has set the bar high for all other dressings.
This restaurant ranch recipe is a fan favorite with everyone I've shared it with. My friends, my grandkids - everyone loves it! I keep a bottle on hand in the fridge to use for everything from snacks to dinners, and honestly, we never get tired of it.

Ingredients
- Plain Greek Yogurt: Make sure not to accidentally pick up vanilla flavor Greek yogurt or regular, non-Greek yogurt. Plain Greek Yogurt has the best flavor and consistency for homemade ranch dressing. I like Stonyfield brand.
- Buttermilk: If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own by mixing one-fourth of a cup of lemon juice or vinegar with whole milk.
- Mayo: I recommend using whole fat mayo for the best flavor. Kewpie mayo is fantastic if you can find it! It's a "heavy" style mayo with a sweet, eggy flavor that is so delicious.
- Olive oil: You can use light olive oil or extra virgin olive oil. This is for both flavor and consistency, so I recommend you don't replace it.
- Lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice works best. Avoid bottled lemon juice.
- Garlic: Fresh minced garlic is irresistible for homemade ranch. But, you can also use garlic powder instead.
- Onion powder
- Salt: Optional; I recommend kosher salt.
- Pepper: Optional; I recommend freshly cracked black pepper.
- Dill: Fresh dill is amazing. If you only have dried, just use less than you would fresh.
- Chives: If you only have access to dried, just use less than you would fresh chives.
- Parsley: As with the dill and chives, I recommend fresh if possible.
How to Make Restaurant Ranch Dressing
- Carefully combine all ingredients in a medium bowl.
- Mix everything together with a whisk until creamy and smooth.
- Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days until ready to use!
Restaurant Style Ranch Recipe Tips
- Fresh herbs: For the best flavor, use fresh herbs, not dried. You can use dried herbs in a pinch, but fresh ones will give you better results!
- Let it chill: After making ranch dressing, let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving! This will better combine the flavors.
How to Store Homemade Ranch Dressing
- Refrigerator: Store homemade ranch dressing in an airtight container, such as a mason jar or storage container, for up to 2 weeks.
- Freezing: You can also freeze ranch dressing. See below for instructions.
I prefer to make my ranch dressing ahead so the flavors have time to meld together. After 1-2 days, it's perfect and so flavorful!
How to Freeze Ranch Dressing
Ranch dressing can be frozen, although its texture will likely change after freezing and may become grainy if not frozen correctly.
For best results, first, freeze the dressing in an ice cube tray covered with plastic. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container, pressing out any excess air.
Label with the date and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to use, allow the dressing to thaw in the refrigerator overnight or by placing the bag in cold water. Whisk thoroughly before using again.
