Turkey Sliders
Hawaiian roll sliders are a staple in my household. It’s easy to make them ahead of time, and they’re a party food everyone loves, so I’m always making them for special occasions like birthdays and game day!
One of my family’s favorite Hawaiian roll sliders recipes is this recipe for turkey sliders. After all, who doesn’t love a good turkey and cheese sandwich? What really sets these sliders apart, though, is the butter sauce.
By mixing together Worcestershire, Dijon mustard, butter, and a few key seasonings, you can make a butter sauce for turkey Hawaiian roll sliders that will wow everyone who tries them.
https://sundaysuppermovement.com/turkey-burgers/Seriously, I could make these every week, and my family wouldn’t tire of them! The other turkey recipe they adore is my juicy turkey burger recipe!
Really good. I made only 4 SLIDERS in my small iron skillet and they came out PERFECTLY. We enjoyed them for lunch the Saturday after Thanksgiving 2021. Served with my homemade cranberry sauce. YUM!!!😁👍

What You’ll Love about My Turkey Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls
- You can use the packaging as a baking sheet, skipping dishes altogether. If you use Hawaiian rolls, the cardboard box can be used as a baking tray, so you won’t have to clean up any dishes but the one you melt the butter in. It’s a serious time-saver!
- The flavors are adjustable. You can use deli turkey, Thanksgiving turkey paired with cranberry sauce, or even chicken or ham. You can also use any cheese you prefer. This recipe is great as a catch-all recipe for sliders!
- The sauce is incredible and easily what sets this turkey sliders recipe apart from the rest. I can’t even describe it to you – you have to try it!
Turkey Hawaiian Roll Sliders Ingredients
- Hawaiian Rolls: You can also use party rolls. King’s Hawaiian rolls are convenient because they come packaged in a cardboard box that can be used as a baking tray.
- Turkey: You can use deli turkey or even leftover Thanksgiving turkey! This recipe can also easily be made with ham (I have a recipe for ham and cheese sliders that is just fantastic). Or, use chicken or roast beef. It really is versatile.
- Havarti Cheese: I like how creamy Havarti is, but you can use any sliced cheese you prefer, like Swiss cheese or white cheddar cheese.
- Butter: Melted, unsalted or salted. I recommend using unsalted butter to have more control over the salt levels, but either works.
- Dijon Mustard Sauce: Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried minced onion, and poppy seeds (optional) combine with the butter into a sauce to brush over the top of the sliders. Dijon can be substituted with other brown mustards, but I recommend avoiding yellow mustard, which has a totally different flavor.
Adding Cold Toppings
If you’re planning on adding ingredients like lettuce and tomato, wait until after baking the sliders to do so. Otherwise, they will take on an unpleasant texture. If you want to add cranberry sauce, you can add it before baking because it will taste great when heated up.
Turkey Slider Recipe Instructions
Cut the Rolls
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Remove the Hawaiian rolls from the packaging, but set the box aside to use later. Carefully slice the tops of the rolls off using a bread knife and set them aside until ready to use.
Layer with Cheese
Lay the bottom half of the rolls in the box they came packaged in. Then, layer cheese slices on top of the rolls to cover them completely. Overlap the cheese slices as needed.
Layer with Turkey
Layer turkey over the top of the cheese. Fit one slice of turkey on each bun.
Add the Tops
Carefully replace the top half of the rolls and reseal the sides of the box.
Combine the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine melted butter with Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and dried minced onion.
Brush with the Sauce
Whisk to combine. Then, pour the butter mixture on top of the buns and use a pastry brush or the back of a spoon to spread the glaze over the buns evenly.
Wrap with Foil
Wrap the entire thing tightly in foil.
Bake and Enjoy
Place the foil pack in the oven preheated to 350°F and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is nicely melted and the sliders are warmed through. Unwrap the foil, serve, and enjoy!
Isabel’s Top Tip
You can also use my homemade garlic butter sauce to top the sliders. Complete with garlic and fresh herbs, this butter sauce is a total game-changer!

FAQ
Turkey pairs best with mild cheeses that melt well. Havarti cheese is my cheese of choice. It’s creamy, melts beautifully, and tastes just plain delicious with both deli turkey and leftover turkey meat from the holidays. My other favorites are Swiss, Provolone, White Cheddar, Gouda and Colby cheese.
Absolutely. You can follow the recipe up to the point you are ready to bake. Assemble the sliders, cover them in saran wrap and bake them the next day. They are a perfect party recipe!

Notes
- You can make a smaller batch (as shown in my images) by halving the recipe.
- Be sure to fit one slice of turkey on each bun, so once they are cooked they will pull apart easily without pulling the turkey off of another bun.
-
If you overlap the turkey to more than one bun you will have to cut through them after they are cooked to make sure they will pull apart easily.
- If the butter sauce is too thick you can heat it in the microwave to thin it out a bit for pouring or you can brush it on.

I want to make them but I want to take them with us, to a hotel
Em Beitel says
Hi Donna! They should keep just fine. Wrap them tightly in foil and plastic wrap in the container for easy transport. If you have an airtight baking dish with a lid, you could also store them that way to transport.

That is so awesome, Marie! Thank you so much! They must have been extra amazing with homemade cranberry sauce.
Allison says
I’ve made this so many times I memorized the butter sauce ingredients. Didn’t see that it was modified until after I made it today. Thought I was going crazy until I saw the note at the top MODIFIED 3/17/21 lol!
I prefer the butter sauce with the dried onion and poppy seeds and more butter!!! But I’m sure the new modified sauce is good too.
These sliders are so delicious! My friends expect them at every pot luck now.
Em Beitel says
Allison, that is too funny – and also so flattering, thank you! We’re so glad you and your friends enjoy the recipe so much!
Ferryal says
Love to try this, however, doesn’t the card board smell & burn in the oven?
Thank you 😊
Isabel Laessig says
Hi Ferryal! Not at all. It would if you used a higher temperature, but up to 350°F won’t burn the cardboard the rolls come packaged in. Just be sure to wrap in foil as instructed. Enjoy!
Sharon Jirka says
Can this recipe be made without the poppyseeds or will it compromise the taste
Isabel Laessig says
Hi Sharon! You can definitely make this without the poppyseeds – it won’t have too much of an impact on the taste. Enjoy!
Nora says
Why does the recipe call for 24 buns but at the to it says it makes 12 sliders. It’s throwing off my math!
Isabel Laessig says
That was a mistake on our end, Nora! We will adjust. However, you can also use 12 rolls if you’d prefer. Whatever works for how much you need.
