Boiled Eggs in the Air Fryer
If you had told me back before I started using my own air fryer that you could hard boil eggs in one, I would not have easily believed you. Or, at least, I wouldn’t have believed they would be as good as stove-top or Instant Pot eggs!
But, it’s true: air fryer boiled eggs are not only totally possible, but they also turn out perfectly. You don’t need to set up any water or keep your eye on them, and with the air fryer, the timing is always just right.
Once you try this method for making hard-boiled eggs in an air fryer, I guarantee you will want to make them this way every time. It’s just so simple. No waiting for water to boil and, best of all, they’re easy to peel. I don’t know about you, but I’m not always the biggest fan of peeling hard-boiled eggs, so the easier, the better!

Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs Ingredients
- Medium-large eggs
- Bowl of ice water
All you need to boil eggs in an air fryer is the eggs themselves. No water is necessary for boiling eggs in an air fryer, and you won’t need any special cookware, either.
You will need a bowl of ice water to cool the eggs to stop them from cooking further, so set that up partway through the cook-time. This cools the eggs quickly and makes them even easier to peel.
How to Make Hard Boiled Eggs in Air Fryer
- Wash and dry the eggs.
- Place the eggs at the bottom of your air fryer in one layer. Don’t stack any eggs.
- Set the air fryer to 275°F and cook for 16 minutes. Remove the eggs. Let cool before peeling.
Cool the eggs by placing them in an ice bath or under cold running water. Handle them carefully with tongs as they will be hot, or allow them to cool to the touch before moving them to the ice bath.
Hard Boiled Eggs Air Fryer Tips
- Try my favorite 10-Quart Air Fryer for this and other air fryer recipes.
- Store-bought eggs peel much more easily and cleanly than fresh farm eggs. I have yet to find something that truly works with fresh farm eggs. You can, of course, still use farm eggs.
- The eggs will be very hot when coming out of the air fryer. I tend to let them sit in the air fryer basket for a couple of minutes before handling them. You can also use tongs if you want to get them in the ice bath sooner.
- Don’t stack your eggs in the air fryer. Make sure they are all in a single layer, or they won’t cook correctly.
- If your eggs have raised spots after cooking, don’t worry. This naturally occurs due to how the air circulates in the air fryer.
- You can use as many eggs as your air fryer will allow in a single layer for this recipe and the timing will not change. I used a 6-quart air fryer for this recipe.
- Start small and adjust the timing to see what’s perfect for your air fryer model and what doneness you prefer using this method. You could remove and cool some eggs early and leave others in longer to test it out with more eggs at a time.
- You can adjust the timing depending on your desired doneness for hard boiled eggs from anywhere between 13 and 17 minutes.
- Don’t skip cooling the eggs under water or with an ice bath. This process stops the eggs from cooking further and helps make them easier to peel, and since you’re not monitoring the eggs on the stove, it’s even easier to set up in the meantime.
- If your air fryer model doesn’t have a basket, use a mesh or grill rack to make sure they cook properly.

How to Store Hard Boiled Eggs
Should hard-boiled eggs be stored peeled or unpeeled? To keep them fresh longest, you should avoid peeling them. However, you can store them peeled, too.
Peeled or unpeeled, store the eggs in an airtight container or tightly sealed plastic bag on the middle shelf of the refrigerator for about 1 week.
