Sometimes the best intentions don’t quite go as planned- and this Easter was the perfect example of that.
After spending a glorious month in the North Georgia mountains, it was time for us to head back to Florida. We fully intended to get home in time to cook our traditional big Easter brunch (you know how much I love those special holiday spreads!). But then we realized Riley wouldn’t be done with work until Thursday… and, well- twist our arm, we decided to stay a few more days so we could soak up some time with him.
We finally rolled into town Friday, and I had this moment of panic thinking my dear friend Patty’s birthday was Saturday. I didn’t want to feel scrambled trying to get everything together, so I did something I don’t usually do: I made a last-minute brunch reservation.
And guess what? Patty’s birthday is actually next weekend. Maybe I subconsciously needed a little break… who knows?
But here’s what I do know- my family would always rather see a relaxed mom than a frazzled one. So, we switched things up and went out for a Mexican brunch. Afterward, we popped over to our favorite local brewery and got very competitive with pool, darts, and Jenga.
It was the first time I can ever remember going out for a holiday, and while I don’t think it’ll become our new tradition, it was such a fun, refreshing change of pace. Honestly, the food was great- but the real treat was being together, laughing, and just enjoying each other.
That’s what it’s always been about for me. We can be anywhere, doing anything- but if we’re all together, it’s a celebration.
I’m also learning something really important lately: the best thing we can do for ourselves is to be kind to ourselves. It’s so easy to be hard on yourself, especially when things don’t go as planned. But treat yourself with love, patience, and grace. You’re doing your best- and that’s more than enough.
This is my era- and I’m here for it.
This week, I’m back in the Family Foodie kitchen, developing and filming new recipes. I’m feeling refreshed and so ready to get back to work. I can’t wait to share what’s coming next! In the meantime, be sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest- wherever you love to scroll. I’m always sharing fresh, real-time content you won’t want to miss!
With love (and a heart full of gratitude),
Isabel
