Last week, I shared how this season of life has me embracing new things and putting myself out there in ways I never imagined. And guess what? I have another story to share- and it involves something I never thought I'd do… golf. ⛳️
Now, my husband has been a golfer for years. Me? I always reasoned that I just wasn’t athletic. Growing up with immigrant parents, after-school sports weren’t a thing. Gym class was something I dreaded because I had never been exposed to any of it. (Side note: this is probably why I made sure all four of my kids tried every sport they wanted by age five!)
But I digress...
Since joining Currahee Club, I’ve watched the ladies’ weekly golf group from my back deck and secretly thought, that looks so fun. But just like when I started this blog 14 years ago, the self-doubt crept in: I’m not athletic. I don’t know how. I’ll make a fool of myself.
It reminded me of how I felt writing my very first blog post. I was scared I didn’t have the skills or the tech knowledge. But I pushed through, and now- this blog, this movement- it’s one of the greatest joys of my life. I can’t imagine my world without it.
So when I got a kind, inclusive email about the Ladies' golf season opening day, you'd think I’d be brave and say yes, right? Not quite. I came up with so many excuses. No clubs. No gloves. No shoes. No clue.
But Denise, our fearless leader, said, “I’ve got everything you need- just show up.”
So I did. (Okay, maybe I was excited to wear a cute golf outfit I had bought- because let’s be honest, it is partly about how you look! 😉)
And friends, I had the time of my life.
I didn’t know what I was doing. I hit the ball a handful of times. But it didn’t matter. The women were so kind and encouraging, and I laughed all afternoon. I felt like a kid again- awkward, unsure—but full of joy.
So what did I do this week? I bought my first set of clubs, a glove, and shoes. I’m officially giving this golf thing a go.
What does this have to do with Sunday Supper? Everything.
This movement was born out of a simple belief: that gathering around the table- just like gathering on a golf course, a porch, or a walk- is a chance to connect, to grow, and to celebrate life’s little joys. Whether trying a new recipe or sport, saying “yes” to something different can open your world in beautiful ways.
So this week, I encourage you to try something new. Invite someone over for a meal. Reach out to that neighbor you’ve only waved to from afar. Join that group you've been curious about. Pick up that instrument, book, or hobby you’ve been putting off.
And most importantly, keep showing up for the people and moments that bring you joy.
This week's meal plan!
