Spaghetti in One Pot
When my kids were growing up, they loved spaghetti night! I would try to always make my best homemade meatballs and spaghetti sauce. Some days, though, I did not have the time to prepare everything separately – you know how it goes! – but still wanted to treat them to a dinner they would love.
That’s what makes this one pot spaghetti recipe the perfect solution. You can cook everything in one pot (yes, even the noodles!) so you have minimal cleanup and prep work. It’s so easy to make this dish in a pinch for a quick spaghetti recipe your family will love!
Cooking pasta in sauce is better than it might sound if you’ve never done it before, too. This lends the sauce the starch from the pasta, which makes it extra thick and creamy. The flavor is unbeatable, as well – one pot spaghetti recipes don’t get any better than this!

How to Make Spaghetti in One Pot
- Add ground beef, sausage, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper to a large pot. Cook for 15 minutes, or until all the meat is crumbled and cooked through.
- Add chicken stock, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, and red pepper flakes to the pot and bring to a boil. Stir so the spaghetti does not stick together or to the bottom of the pot.
- Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep the noodles from sticking to the pot.
- Remove from the heat and top with parmesan and parsley. Serve, and enjoy!
One Pot Spaghetti Recipe Tips
- Beef or vegetable stock can be used instead of chicken stock if desired.
- You can use any type of noodle, not just spaghetti! Use your favorite.
- Additional ground beef or Italian sausage can be used instead of pork sausage if you prefer.
- White onion can be used instead of red onion if you like, but red onion adds a sweetness without needing to add sugar.
- Dried basil, parsley, or Italian seasoning add additional flavor to one pot spaghetti and are delicious! Use your favorite if you want a little extra.
- I sometimes like to add mushrooms, bell peppers, or even corn to one pot spaghetti. Try adding vegetables you like to mix things up!
- If you want a saucier pasta, you can add even more sauce after making it.
- Store for 3-5 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Can you freeze cooked spaghetti?
Cooked spaghetti can be frozen for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container or freezer-safe plastic bag. Let it cool first, then freeze. Label with the date.
One Pot Spaghetti FAQs
Cook raw spaghetti pasta in sauce by first preparing the meat for the sauce, then adding the liquid elements of the sauce as well as the noodles, and bringing it to a boil. Let it simmer and the noodles will cook in the sauce.
Do not rinse spaghetti. Pasta should not be rinsed before cooking. Additionally, the starch in the pasta is necessary for the creaminess of this spaghetti dinner.
