Happy Sunday Friends,
I’m writing to you from our peaceful little haven in the Georgia mountains, where time seems to slow down just enough to let you catch your breath. These quiet days, surrounded by trees, the stillness of the lake, and the joy of good neighbors, have been exactly what I’ve needed lately.
This week, we set out on a peaceful sunset cruise along Lake Hartwell, and it was nothing short of magical. The air was warm, the views were breathtaking, and the cheesesteak sliders I brought were a hit — every bite enjoyed between sips of wine and stories shared with dear friends. There’s something so calming about drifting across the water while the sun paints the sky. It filled my heart in the most beautiful way.
With all this quiet time to reflect, I thought it would be fun to share a few answers to the questions you all sent over the last couple of weeks. I always say this community feels like family, and I truly mean it. I love all the questions you asked, and I will attempt to answer them all, so here's a little peek into my heart:
Q&A From the Dock
Q: What inspired Sunday Supper?
When my oldest daughter left for college, she told me the thing she would miss most was our Sunday dinners. That one comment changed everything. It reminded me how powerful it is to gather around the table, and how food can be the glue that holds us together. That’s when I knew I had to create something bigger than just recipes. I wanted to start a movement.
Q: What's your go-to dish when you're hosting?
I'm not sure I could answer this question with just one dish. I go with the flow and whatever I have on hand, and I definitely love make-ahead meals. Something that tastes amazing but lets me enjoy the moment, like those cheesesteak sliders or my chuck roast recipe are definitely top contenders! Make-ahead meals are my secret to stress-free entertaining. If I can prep it early and just enjoy the gathering, that’s a win in my book.
Q: What does a Sunday look like at your house?
Coffee on the porch with Ron. Maybe a walk. Definitely something delicious simmering in the kitchen. We take the golf cart out for a ride and end the day with family around the table and a game of Mexican Train or Sequence, or even a card game like Rummy 500. It’s simple, and that’s what makes it so perfect.
Q: How do you stay inspired?
By living it. My ideas don’t come from a content calendar, they come from the memories we make, the meals we share, and the people around me. Every story, every dish, every restaurant we visit, every family gathering keeps the spark going.
Q: What’s something you're looking forward to?
Okay, I’m SO excited about this… I’m going on my first girls’ trip in over 20 years! Can you believe that?! It’s long overdue, and I can’t wait to laugh until we cry, eat way too much, and make memories with some of the most incredible women… this feels like a beautiful gift back to myself.
Thank you for being here — for reading, for cooking with me, for sharing your own stories with me. I’m so lucky to have this beautiful community around the table with me, week after week.
With love from the mountains,
Isabel
This week's meal plan...
- Sunday: Portobello Mushroom Burger
- Monday: Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms
- Tuesday: Mushroom Tacos
- Wednesday: Smoked Chicken Thighs
- Thursday: Strawberry Chicken Salad
- Friday: Bruschetta Chicken
- Saturday: BBQ Chicken Nachos
🔪 Prep Plan:
On your prep day, cook your big batch of portobello mushrooms!
Once cooked and cooled, store them in airtight containers in the fridge for Sunday’s portobello mushroom burgers and Monday’s stuffed mushrooms.
While the mushrooms are cooking, prep extra toppings!
Slice red onions, dice tomatoes, and shred lettuce or cabbage for tacos and burgers. Store each topping in separate containers.
Make a batch of grilled or shredded chicken for the week!
You’ll use this for Wednesday’s smoked chicken thighs, Thursday’s strawberry chicken salad, Friday’s bruschetta chicken, and Saturday’s BBQ chicken nachos. Once cooled, store it in portions so each meal is easy to grab and go.
Missed a week? Check out my last blog post, too!
