If you know anything about me, you probably know how much I love sauce recipes - especially butter sauces. I've made butter sauce with sage, garlic and parsley, and lemon, and every time I serve them they're a hit.

Well, I am obsessed with this cowboy butter sauce. It combines butter with zesty lemon, tangy Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, fresh parsley, and a blend of seasonings that give it an incredible depth of flavor.

You will love serving this sauce with everything from steak bites to pan-seared pork chops. It is truly delicious!

What is cowboy butter?

To put it simply, cowboy butter is a compound butter. It's a blend of butter with herbs, spices, and other sauces that is typically served with steak. You can use it as a spread or serve it as a sauce.

Cowboy Butter Steak Sauce Ingredients

• Butter: I'm using unsalted butter. If you only have salted butter, be sure to taste it before adding any more salt.
• Lemon: You will need both the zest and the juice, so be sure to use a fresh lemon!
• Seasoning: For this cowboy butter, I use a combination of red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. If you like less spice, you can either cut down on or leave out the red pepper.
• Parsley: Fresh parsley adds a vibrant pop to the sauce and pairs very well with the other flavors in cowboy butter.
• Worcestershire Sauce: Typically served as a steak sauce, Worcestershire is the perfect addition to cowboy butter. It adds so much flavor!
• Dijon Mustard: Tangy Dijon mustard is just delicious when combined with this butter steak sauce recipe. If you don't have Dijon, you could use stone-ground mustard. Don't use yellow mustard, though!

How to Make Cowboy Butter Sauce

1. Melt butter in a saucepan on the stove, or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between intervals.
2. Add melted butter to a bowl with lemon, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, pepper, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard.
3. Mix until fully incorporated. Serve, and enjoy!

Expert Tips for Making Cowboy Butter

• You can use cowboy butter to baste steak. Try it out with any of my steaks.
• You can also use it as a marinade. I do this with my air fried steak cubes.
• If you're using this sauce to marinate raw steak before cooking it, set a portion aside for use later to avoid cross-contamination.
• For a sweeter sauce, add a little honey.
• For less heat, leave out or reduce the amount of red pepper.

How to Freeze Cowboy Butter Sauce

In order to freeze cowboy butter, store it in an airtight freezer-safe container with at least 2 inches of room at the top to account for liquid expansion. Store in the freezer for up to 6 months, labeled with the freezing date.
