Asian Beef Marinade
More than just about any other meal, I love to grill steak. My husband Ron and I are all about steak dinners, and one of our shared favorites is a Grilled NY Strip with this Asian-inspired beef marinade.
After trying it for the first time, I knew I had to serve it with other meats, too. I love it with chicken and pork, especially pan-seared chicken and pork chops on the grill, but it's also great with vegetables like roasted broccoli.
Despite only using five ingredients, this is a super flavorful Asian marinade recipe I'm certain you'll love. It's easy to make gluten-free and keto-friendly, too, so give it a try!
Asian Steak Marinade Ingredients
- Soy Sauce: The base of my Asian beef marinade is soy sauce. You can use a gluten-free variety if needed, like tamari or coconut aminos.
- Balsamic Vinegar: Has a rich, sweet flavor that pairs perfectly with tangy soy sauce and spicy chili oil, in addition to helping break down tougher muscle fibers to tenderize meat.
- Mongolian Fire Oil: You can also use your favorite chili oil! My go-to alternative is Lee Kum Kee's garlic chili oil.
- Minced Garlic: Use fresh garlic for the best flavor! You can also use garlic paste.
- Lemon Juice: In addition to helping tenderize the meat, lemon juice adds a little extra zing and depth of flavor.
Making Steak Marinade Keto
Replace soy sauce with coconut aminos, and balsamic vinegar with red wine vinegar, to make this Asian marinade steak keto-friendly.
How to Make Asian Marinade for Steak
- Add all ingredients to a bowl and whisk together to mix until well combined.
- Place meat in the marinade, cover, and chill for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator, up to 8 hours.
Soy Sauce Steak Marinade FAQ
You should marinate steak in this Asian beef marinade for at least 30 minutes, up to 8 hours, depending on the cut of steak. I don't recommend letting your steaks marinate for longer than 8 hours. I would also recommend marinating no longer than overnight for chicken and pork using this marinade.
Soy sauce is a great choice for tenderizing steak. It helps break down the tougher muscle fibers of the beef, so even naturally tougher cuts like chuck steak and London Broil can become super tender.
Asian Steak Marinade Variations
- You can also use spicy sesame oil or normal sesame oil in place of the Mongolian fire oil in this recipe, but I recommend giving the fire oil a try. If you're concerned about spice levels, it won't add any spice to the steak. It only adds flavor!
- This Asian steak marinade recipe makes enough for at least 4 steaks. If cooking for more, double the ingredients!

- ½ Cup Soy Sauce
- ¼ Cup Balsamic Vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons Mongolian Fire Oil
- 2 Tablespoons Minced Garlic
- 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
Instructions
- Add ½ Cup Soy Sauce, ¼ Cup Balsamic Vinegar, 2 Tablespoons Mongolian Fire Oil, 2 Tablespoons Minced Garlic, and 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice to a bowl.
- Mix marinade together until fully combined. Place meat in the marinade, cover, and chill for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator, up to 8 hours.
