What is London Broil?
London Broil refers to both a technique for cooking beef, and a specific cut of meat. Top-round steak and flank steak are the most common cuts sold under this name because they marinate well.
The technique involves marinating, grilling, and thinly slicing beef. This makes it a perfect choice for turning an affordable steak into a tender, restaurant-quality meal.
What Cut to Use
- Flank
- Top round
- Flap
- Skirt
Budget-friendly steaks are the way to go when grilling a London broil cut. You can use any of the above cuts.
Equipment
- meat thermometer (recommended)
- tongs
- cutting board
- steak carving knife
How do you cook London broil so it’s not tough?
The secret is in the marinade, grilling it properly, and slicing it thinly.
By allowing your beef to marinate 4 hours up to overnight, it will soak in all of the delicious flavors of your marinade and be tenderized by the juices.
Then you take the marinade and turn it into a delicious garlic ginger sauce. It couldn’t be any tastier.
Grilling it cooks it to the perfect temperature while giving it the perfect sear, and slicing it thinly against the grain ensures each bite is so tender.
What is the best temperature to cook London broil?
Cook your cut of beef at about 400°F (medium-high) on the grill for 5 to 8 minutes on each side.
This way you will achieve a perfect sear on your grilled London Broil while cooking it to a beautiful medium-rare on the inside.
