Oil Dipping Sauce for Bread
This will quickly become your new secret weapon for serving an unforgettable meal! Imagine the warmth of freshly baked bread or pizza paired with homemade olive oil dip packed with garlic and herbs. It has a spicy kick, a touch of salt, and is absolutely incredible!
This is a versatile oil dipping sauce, too! Enjoy it as an oil dipping sauce for bread or pizza, or drizzle it over veggies, pasta, Italian sandwiches, and salads. The options are endless, and I promise, no matter how you serve it, everyone will ask you how to make it!
Italian Bread Dipping Oil Ingredients
- Safflower Oil: I used Oléico safflower oil to make this recipe; however, I love to make this into an olive oil bread dip by using high-quality olive oil with a splash of balsamic vinegar added. This creates an incredible depth of flavor you’d find at an Italian restaurant, and I guarantee you will love serving with everything from dinner rolls to pasta dishes.
- Italian Seasoning: I’m using a homemade Italian seasoning blend combining black pepper, dried oregano, dried basil, dried parsley, onion powder, garlic powder, dried rosemary, coarse sea salt flakes, and red chili flakes for a kick of heat.
- Parmesan Cheese: Finishing this bread dipping oil recipe with Parmesan cheese greatly complements the other flavors.
How to Make Dipping Oil for Bread
- In a shallow bowl, combine olive or safflower oil, all of your prepared seasonings, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Enjoy this bread dipping oil recipe with your favorite bread or a slice of pizza!
Bread Dip Recipe Tips
- Use high-quality oil for a richer taste. I enjoy using safflower oil, but you can always use extra virgin olive oil for this dip! Make sure to use a high-quality oil, as it greatly affects the flavor of the dip.
- Everyone’s palate is different, so taste and adjust the seasoning as needed!
- If desired, opt for fresh herbs! Fresh oregano, basil, thyme, parsley, and rosemary can elevate the sauce rather than using dried herbs.
- Experiment with additional ingredients like lemon juice or zest, balsamic vinegar, or fresh garlic.
Ways to Use Olive Oil Dip
- Bread Dip: Just like Carrabba’s! This oil dipping sauce is perfect for a loaf of crusty bread like a ciabatta (my pick for the best bread to dip in olive oil), French baguette, focaccia, or sourdough bread.
- Pizza Dip: Or, serve it with your favorite pizza! Sometimes I even like to top my pizza crust with this dip.
- Pizza Pull Apart Bread: Here’s my favorite: combine pizza and bread for the best combination with this dip! Try my Pizza Monkey Bread.
- Salad Dressing: Drizzle over a fresh salad for a flavor-packed oil dressing.
- Pasta: Toss with pasta and add a little extra Parmesan cheese!
- Grilled Vegetables: Brush over veggies before grilling for a herby, garlicky flavor.
- Roasted Potatoes: Toss potatoes in the sauce before roasting!
Storing Olive Oil Dip
To store your olive oil dip leftovers, place it in an airtight container such as a mason jar and refrigerate it for up to a week. Let it sit out until it reaches room temperature for the next use. Give the oil mixture another stir to mix any separated ingredients.
Bread Dipping Oil FAQ
I opt for safflower oil because it has a light, neutral flavor that doesn’t overpower dishes. However, I love to also use high-quality extra virgin olive oil! Avocado oil or grapeseed oil will work, too.
Pure oils, like olive or safflower oil, do not need to be refrigerated and can be stored in a cool, dark place. However, if the dipping oil contains fresh ingredients, such as fresh garlic cloves, herbs, or cheese, it’s safer to refrigerate it to prevent spoilage. Because my bread dipping oil recipe contains Parmesan, it needs to be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
