Pasta with Burrata
The first time I tried making pasta with burrata was years ago. In 2015 I thought to mix the flavors I love from my pink pasta recipe with my family’s favorite cheese: burrata.
From then on, burrata pasta became a total hit with my family. I still remember the looks on their faces around the table when they took that first bite – everyone loved it!
You’re sure to get the same reaction when serving burrata with pasta. The combination is totally irresistible; rich tomato cream sauce with white wine, creamy burrata cheese, and savory, sweet-or-spicy sausage. It tastes incredible every time.
Give it a try – with a total time of 45 minutes or less, I promise you’ll walk away with a new recipe to add permanently to your dinner rotation. Make it as a weekday treat or for special occasions!

Burrata Pasta Recipe
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta according to package directions (al dente works best). Drain when ready, and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and onion. Saute until the onions soften, approximately 3 minutes.
- Add sausage and cook for 5 minutes, using a wooden spoon to break it into crumbles.
- Add garlic and saute for another 3 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce as well as white wine (or chicken broth). Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Lower the heat to low, and slowly stir in heavy cream. Make sure to keep stirring as you add the cream.
- When well combined, add Parmesan cheese while continuing to stir, until mixed together and creamy.
- Add drained pasta to the skillet. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes over low heat until the sauce is slightly absorbed by the pasta.
- Remove the burrata cheese from its container and absorb any excess water with a paper towel.
- Plate the pasta in a large bowl. Top with burrata immediately. The heat from the pasta will warm and slightly melt the burrata cheese.
- Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Garnish with additional Parmesan cheese as well as fresh basil. Enjoy!
This recipe is so amazing. It also inspired me to try making a Burrata Salad and I’m so glad I did. These two burrata recipes are requested over and over again!

Recipe Tips
- There is so much flavor in this dish already, but if you want to add a little something extra, cherry tomatoes work well.
- I also like red pepper flakes for spice, now and then.
Burrata Pasta FAQs
Burrata is a soft cheese made from cow’s milk. The outside layer is mozzarella, while the inside is stracciatella: pulled mozzarella curds mixed with fresh cream. This gives it a creamy, smooth texture that sets it apart from regular mozzarella.
Burrata melts even more easily than fresh mozzarella cheese, making it a great choice for topping everything from pizza to pasta.
