Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta Ingredients
- Pasta: My recipe for garlic butter noodles with shrimp calls for spaghetti, but you can use your favorite noodles. Other great choices are fettuccine, linguine, and angel hair, but feel free to use varieties like penne, too.
- Butter: While I recommend using unsalted butter so you can have more control over the salt levels of the pasta, you can also use salted butter.
- Avocado Oil: Olive oil can also be used (extra virgin olive oil or light olive oil).
- Shrimp: Get large shrimp. If you can get them peeled and deveined already, it will save you time!
- Salt: Kosher salt or sea salt flakes work best.
- Black Pepper: Freshly ground works best.
- Red Pepper Flakes: If you don't like spice, don't include red pepper flakes. If you do, feel free to add more!
- Dry White Wine: If you don't want to use white wine, I recommend using a white wine vinegar or alcohol-free cooking wine instead.
- Garlic: Use freshly minced garlic cloves or garlic paste to save time.
- Lemon Juice: Always use fresh lemon juice. Bottled lemon juice will not give you the flavor you want in garlic butter shrimp pasta, and you will also need a fresh lemon for zest.
- Lemon Zest: From a fresh lemon.
- Italian Seasoning: I make my own Italian seasoning, and recommend giving it a try yourself to customize the flavors to your liking.
- Parmesan: Freshly grated Parmesan is my cheese of choice for shrimp pasta. You can also use pecorino romano.
- Parsley: Freshly chopped parsley adds color and vibrant flavor to the pasta, but you can leave it out if you prefer.

Tips for Making Garlic Shrimp Pasta
- Frozen shrimp is very convenient and tastes great. I almost always use frozen shrimp for the convenience, so feel free to do the same.
- Experiment with the ingredients. You don't have to use spaghetti pasta; you can use fettuccine, linguine, or any favorite noodle of yours. I find the longer pasta noodles to work best with garlic shrimp pasta.
- It's not necessary to use alcohol if you want to leave it out. If you do use white wine, use a quality drinking wine for best flavor. If not, try using white wine vinegar, champagne vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or an alcohol-free cooking wine as you prefer. You can also use chicken stock or broth, but the taste will not be as sharp and flavorful.
- If the shrimp is frozen, allow it to defrost overnight in the fridge. I place the whole bag on a plate in the fridge. Place the shrimp on a few paper towels to soak up all the excess water.
Storing Garlic Butter Pasta with Shrimp
You can keep garlic butter shrimp pasta leftovers in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. Heat up in a saute pan and a splash of water. Keep in mind that shrimp is best enjoyed within the first day or the day after.
FAQ
Longer pastas like linguine and spaghetti go very well with shrimp, but penne is also a great shape of pasta for pairing with shrimp. Experiment to find your favorite.
Serve garlic butter shrimp pasta with french bread, a simple fresh salad, oven roasted asparagus, broccoli with lemon and parmesan, or other roasted veggies of your choice, such as cauliflower.
