Sriracha and Honey Sauce
My fridge has a problem: sometimes the door doesn’t close properly. The reason for this is clear as soon as I open it up: about two dozen bottles of various super-specific sauces! I could get rid of them, but who knows when I’ll be making takoyaki again, right?
It’s at times like those when I truly value a delicious, versatile sauce I can use on everything. It’s the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, sticky and savory that makes for the ideal dip, stir fry sauce, marinade, salad dressing… Need I go on?
The best part about spicy honey sauce is how easy and simple it is. With only five pantry-staple ingredients and 10 minutes of cooking time, this spicy and sweet sauce is ready in no time and truly enhances the flavor of any dish!
Sriracha Honey Sauce Ingredients
- Sriracha Sauce
- Honey
- Rice vinegar
- Soy sauce
- Garlic, minced
- Optional: Red pepper flakes, apple cider vinegar
How to Make Honey Sriracha Sauce
- Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan, and whisk until combined.
- Place the pan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Once it reaches boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 more minutes, until it begins to thicken.
- Remove from the heat and let cool- it will continue thickening as it cools. Once cooled, drizzle over the desired dish, and enjoy!
Sriracha Honey Tips
- Feel free to adjust the ratios! Less soy sauce will intensify the sweet and spicy nature of the sauce, while less sriracha will lead to a less spicy, more savory sauce.
- A splash of apple cider vinegar adds a great tang!
- You can adjust the spice levels by adding more or less sriracha, or even adding a half teaspoon of red pepper flakes.
- This sauce gets thick and delicious once chilled. Warm it up again for a thicker sauce for dipping!
- Always use fresh garlic. Powdered garlic just won’t be the same, and has much less intensity of flavor.
- The flavor will develop overnight! Make this sauce ahead of time and store it in the fridge; it’ll be even better in the morning.
- Make this sauce gluten-free by swapping soy sauce for tamari!
Sriracha Sauce Recipes FAQ
As far as chili sauces go, sriracha is known to be mild in terms of spice. It only reaches 1,000-2,500 Scovilles on the spice scale, which is even lower than Tabasco, which runs from 2,500 to 5,000. This makes it perfect for adding a ton of flavor without adding too much spice!
Honey Sriracha sauce made at home is made from five simple ingredients: honey, sriracha, garlic, rice vinegar, and soy sauce! Extra ingredients can be added such as red pepper flakes for heat or a dash of apple cider vinegar for tang.
Honey and Sriracha Sauce Storage Tips
- Fridge: Place leftover sauce in an airtight container such as a jar or plastic container, and store for up to 5 days.
- Freezer: My favorite way to store this sauce! I recommend pouring the sauce into an ice cube tray and then popping all the frozen sauce cubes into a plastic bag. This makes the sauce easy to thaw or toss directly into a pan.
- Reheating: Reheat chilled hot sauce in a covered container in the microwave, stirring every 10-15 seconds. It’ll reheat very fast and can spatter so watch it closely!
