Tips for Pork Chops in Slow Cooker with Potatoes
- You can use bone-in pork chops or boneless pork chops for this pork chop recipe! Just make sure they’re thick-cut, or else the pork can get dry and tough.
- Don’t feel limited to potatoes and carrots. You can choose any vegetables to add to the crockpot so long as they’re tough enough to be cooked for a long time. Use hard vegetables like yellow squash, rutabaga, parsnips, and kohlrabi according to your tastes for best results!
- For extra creamy sauce, stir in a bit of heavy cream once the pork chops have fully cooked. This adds a bit of extra rich flavor to the dish.
- This is a perfect meal for a busy day. Start it during lunch, and it’ll be ready by dinner time!
- No matter what, never set the slow cooker to HIGH to cook pork. This will overcook the pork and make it tough, dry, and unpleasant.
- If you want, you can leave out the potatoes and make this dish with a side of Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes or Instant Pot White Rice instead. I do this all the time!
How Long to Cook Pork Chops in Slow Cooker
For fork-tender slow cooker pork chops, set for a cooking time of 5 hours on LOW. You never want to set the crockpot to HIGH, or you’ll wind up with tough and dry pork chops.
Slow Cooker Pork Chops FAQ
If you’re used to tough pork chops, it’s probably due to over-cooking. Pork, much like steak, gets tougher when cooked over high heat for too long. The way to solve this is to cook the pork on LOW heat. Low and slow heat renders the fat and breaks down the proteins for tender, juicy meat!
You can absolutely put raw pork in the slow cooker, but don’t put frozen pork in the slow cooker. It will take too long to come to a safe temperature, and thus linger in the danger zone and become unsafe to eat. Make sure the pork is fully thawed before cooking!
Tender pork chops are all about making sure not to over-cook the meat, and using thick cut pork! Thin pork chops don’t cook well for low and slow cooking. Use thick cut chops, make sure there’s plenty of liquid, and always cook your slow cooker pork chops on LOW- never HIGH.
