How to Make Tacos with Ground Pork
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2 minutes or until they become fragrant and translucent.
- Add the ground pork to the pan and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it’s browned and cooked through.
- Stir in chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to taste the taco seasoning and evenly coat the pork.
- Add the tomato sauce and chicken broth to the skillet. Stir well and simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until the mixture thickens. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.
- Warm your tortillas in a dry skillet, in the oven, or in the microwave.
- Place a spoonful of the ground pork taco meat on each tortilla. Top with your choice of toppings. Some popular options included shredded lettuce, salsa, diced red onions, sliced jalapeños, cheese, sour cream, or guacamole.
- Serve your ground pork tacos immediately and enjoy! I love pairing mine with chipotle ranch as a dipping sauce!
Recipe Tips
- Spice it up: Feel free to adjust the spices to suit your taste. Love a bit more heat? Add some extra chili powder or a pinch of red pepper flakes. Season with addition garlic powder or onion powder!
- Customize your toppings: Build your own taco with a variety of your favorite taco toppings like cheese, sour cream, cabbage, black beans, fresh cilantro, coleslaw, or avocado slices. You could even use lettuce wraps instead of tortillas!
- Leftover taco meat: If you have leftover ground pork, use it in burritos, quesadillas, taco bowls, as a salad topping, or in any ground pork recipes!
Storing Leftovers
- Pork filling: Allow your cooked pork filling to cool to room temperature. Transfer it to an airtight container and place it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. When ready to enjoy again, simply reheat the pork filling in a microwave or on a stovetop until thoroughly warm.
- Tortillas: Store any leftovers in their original packaging, tightly sealed. If you threw the packing away, wrap the tortillas in foil or place them inside of a ziplock bag. Keep your tortillas at room temperature for up to a week.
- Taco toppings: Store fresh toppings separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Use them within 2-3 days.
Ground Pork Tacos FAQ
Absolutely! You can substitute the ground pork for ground turkey, ground beef, ground chicken, or turkey, and use the same seasonings and cooking method. Each of these proteins will bring its unique flavor and texture to the tacos.
Enjoy your pork taco with a range of delicious sides like cilantro lime rice, street corn, Spanish rice and beans, Mexican slaw, or simply plain but delicious coleslaw. My favorite is by far the street corn – it’s delicious!
