Sauce for Quesadillas
If I have leftovers, there’s a good chance I’ll be making quesadillas. Pulled pork quesadillas, steak quesadillas, turkey quesadillas, chicken quesadillas… the list goes on!
But, if you know me, you know that I think everything is better with a sauce. I love making sauces for everything; fry sauce, chick-fil-a dip, remoulade… there is so much you can make with just a few simple ingredients.
So, naturally, I had to make quesadilla sauce to go with my quesadillas!
This is a copycat Taco Bell quesadilla sauce. It comes together in just a few minutes using simple ingredients that you might already have on hand. It’s super tasty, so try it with everything, including nachos, taquitos, tacos and burritos!
Quesadilla Dipping Sauce FAQ
Yes, you can substitute mayonnaise in quesadilla sauce for Greek Yogurt instead. The taste will be slightly different and it will be less creamy, but Greek yogurt is a light alternative that will give you a great, fresh-tasting sauce.
Quesadilla sauce uses a blend of mayo, sour cream, pickled jalapeno juice, ground cumin, garlic powder, salt, and chili powder. This blend comes together to create an incredibly creamy, tangy sauce that pairs well with chicken, beef, vegetables, and more.
Quesadilla Sauce Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: I recommend using a full fat mayo. If you don’t want to use mayo, use Greek yogurt. Just keep in mind the flavor and consistency will not be the same.
- Sour Cream: Just like the mayo, I recommend using full fat sour cream. Greek yogurt can also be used as a replacement and will have less of an impact on flavor and texture when replacing sour cream.
- Pickled Jalapeno Juice: Just use a little juice from a jar of Jalapenos.
- Seasoning: Ground cumin, garlic powder, salt, and chili powder combine to make the seasoning for quesadilla sauce. I definitely recommend using either kosher salt or sea salt flakes and avoiding table salt!
How to Make Quesadilla Sauce
- In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise with sour cream, jalapeno juice, ground cumin, garlic powder, salt, and chili powder.
- Mix until creamy and serve with quesadillas immediately, or store. Enjoy!
How to Store Quesadilla Sauce
Quesadilla sauce can be stored in an airtight container such as a jar in the refrigerator for up to one week.
I would recommend you avoid freezing quesadilla sauce, as mayo-based sauces do not freeze well.
Expert Tips for Quesadilla Sauce
- For more spice, use either more jalapeno juice or additional chili powder.
- For less spice, either use less jalapeno juice or chili powder, or omit one of the two ingredients.
- For a lighter sauce, you can use Greek Yogurt instead of the mayo or sour cream.
