Black Eyed Peas Dip
Let me tell you why you’re going to love this black eyed peas dip. Also known as Texas Caviar or Cowboy Caviar, it’s fun, flavorful, and uses a handful of simple ingredients. Nothing in black eye pea dip is cooked, so you can whip the dip up last minute and have it ready in no time!
Every time I serve this dip for friends, someone asks me for the recipe. You’ll be surprised how flavorful it is for such a simple recipe! Even better when you serve it with an entree like steak nachos or as a dip for homemade tortilla chips!
The easiest dip I have ever made. Everyone at the party loved it!

FAQ
The black beans, pinto beans, and black-eyed peas should be drained before making black-eyed pea dip. If you don’t drain the cans, your dip will be too watery.
Homemade black eyed peas dip is good for 4-5 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can make it several days in advance before serving, so it’s great for holidays.
Black Eye Pea Dip Ingredients
- Black-eyed peas, canned: Drain your black-eyed peas. They’re already cooked, so you won’t have to cook them.
- Pinto beans and black beans, canned: Like the black-eyed peas, you should drain your cans of pinto beans and black beans or your dip will be way too watery.
- Zesty Italian Salad Dressing: This simple ingredient packs a punch of flavor in every bite of black-eyed pea dip! Choose your favorite brand.
- Celery: Make sure to finely dice your celery to ensure a little bit in every bite.
- Bell Peppers: Finely dice your bell peppers. You can use any color, but I’m using a green bell pepper and a red bell pepper.
- Onion: I recommend using a white or yellow onion. Red onion can be overpowering.
- Cilantro: This is optional, if you don’t like cilantro. In place of cilantro, you can use parsley, or optionally just leave it out.
- Salt and Pepper: I recommend using kosher salt or sea salt flakes in addition to freshly cracked black pepper.

Blackeyed Pea Dip Tips
- You can add a kick of heat by adding diced jalapenos to the mix!
- Cilantro is optional. If you don’t want to use cilantro but are missing out on the fresh herbs, try using fresh chopped parsley instead.
- Letting it sit overnight gives it a stronger flavor. Allow the dip to rest in the refrigerator overnight to develop the flavors even more!
