Black Eye Pea Dip Recipe Tips

    • You can add a kick of heat by adding diced jalapenos to the mix!
    • Cilantro is optional. If you don’t want to use cilantro but are missing out on the fresh herbs, try using fresh chopped parsley instead.
    • Letting it sit overnight gives it a stronger flavor. Allow the dip to rest in the refrigerator overnight to develop the flavors even more!

    Cowboy Caviar FAQ

What is cowboy caviar made of?

Cowboy Caviar uses a mixture of black-eyed peas, celery, cilantro, sweet yellow corn, green pepper, red pepper, onions, pinto beans, black beans, zesty Italian salad dressing, and salt and pepper. This gives it a flavorful, zesty taste perfect for pairing with tortilla chips.

Do you drain the beans to make black-eyed pea dip?

The black beans, pinto beans, and black-eyed peas should be drained before making Texas caviar.

    Is this recipe gluten-free?

While most Italian dressing should be gluten-free, it is still best to check the bottle before using it in this recipe. Otherwise, this is a gluten-free Texas caviar recipe everyone can enjoy!

How long is Cowboy Caviar good for in the fridge?

Homemade black eyed peas dip is good for 4-5 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
