Happy Sunday!
August is my favorite month of the year — and this year has been over the top, filled with love and celebrations! 🎉 It’s my birthday, it’s Reis’s birthday, it’s our anniversary, and it’s also the birthday of Sunday Supper.
Yes, it all began 14 years ago when my oldest, Alex, left for college. On the day she moved out, I asked her what she would miss most about home. Her answer had such a profound effect on me:
“I can’t imagine not being here cooking and eating together on Sundays.”
That thought stayed with me. As a 40 years old, with no writing skills, no technology skills, heck, I wasn’t even on Facebook — I decided to start a blog. In my mind, it was just going to be a little space to leave recipes for my kids. I never dreamed it would grow into what the Sunday Supper Movement is today.
I had no idea the challenges ahead (I still remember how terrifying it felt to start my @familyfoodie Twitter account back when that was the social network of choice!). But I also had no idea how much joy, connection, and meaning it would bring to my life and to our family.
Most of all, I had no idea how it would connect me to you. There’s nothing more reassuring than when one of you reaches out to say I’ve inspired you to gather at the table with your family or try something new in the kitchen. Those are the moments that remind me why I started in the first place.
From birthdays to anniversaries to this 14-year milestone, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. Thank you for being here with me — whether you’ve been here from the beginning or just joined recently. Here’s to many more Sundays, more stories, and more suppers shared together.
With love and gratitude,
Isabel

To celebrate, everyone who answers our quick survey will be entered into a giveaway for a $100 Amazon Gift Card! 🎁
Your answers may also inspire future recipes, stories, and even upcoming newsletters. After all, Sunday Supper has always been about building a community — your table is part of this story, too.
This week's meal plan...
- Sunday: Italian Meatballs and Sunday Gravy
- Monday: Meatball Sub
- Tuesday: Meatball Soup
- Wednesday: Honey Sriracha Meatballs + White Rice
- Thursday: Shrimp Rice Bowl
- Friday: Shrimp Tacos with Coleslaw
- Saturday: Egg Roll in a Bowl
🔪 Prep Plan:
On your prep day, cook your big batch of Italian meatballs in Sunday gravy! Once cooked and cooled, store portions of the meatballs and sauce for Monday’s Meatball Subs, Tuesday’s Meatball Soup, and Wednesday’s Honey Sriracha Meatballs. Store each portion in an airtight container in the fridge.
While the meatballs are simmering, prep your shrimp! Clean, peel, and devein the shrimp. Store them raw in the fridge until ready to cook for Thursday’s Shrimp Rice Bowls and Friday’s Shrimp Tacos with Coleslaw.
Want to get ahead?
- Chop your coleslaw mix and make the dressing so taco night is quick.
- Cook a big batch of white rice — you can use it for Wednesday’s Honey Sriracha Meatballs, Thursday’s Shrimp Rice Bowls, and even save extra for Saturday’s Egg Roll in a Bowl.
