Butter Boards FAQs
A butter board consists of soft butter smeared on a serving dish, such as a wooden cutting board, topped with fresh herbs, seasonings, and other toppings. The ideas are endless for what toppings you can put on a butter board!
For a butter board, butter should be easily spreadable and soft. You can quickly soften butter by heating a bowl with very hot water, then emptying it, and placing the hot bowl over the stick of butter on a plate. The heat from the bowl will quickly soften the butter so it spreads easily. Alternatively, leave the butter out at room temperature for about 45 minutes to let it soften.
How to Make a Butter Board
- Start off with softened unsalted butter. If you’re in a rush warm a glass or bowl under hot water and place it over the cold butter.
- Next, you’ll need a large serving board, such as a wooden cutting board.
- Use a butter knife to create swirls in the butter for a pretty-looking pattern.
- Add your favorite toppings – the sky is the limit, so get creative!
- Lastly, serve with crusty warm bread. Have your guests dip, swirl, or spread with a knife.
And that’s it! From start to finish making a butter board is so easy, taking less than 5 minutes once you have all your ingredients set out and ready to go. Below are a few of my favorite combinations!
