Pork Chops in Instant Pot
Pork chops are a frequent dinner for my household, so I love coming up with new pork chop recipes to share with my family. This recipe for pork chops in the Instant Pot is one of their favorites!
It’s one of my favorites to make for them, too. Instead of dealing with splattered grease, you can put pork chops in the Instant Pot for a mess-free easy dinner! Plus, they’re ready to eat in just 30 minutes, so they’re perfect if you need dinner on the table quickly.
Instant Pot pork chops come out perfectly juicy and tender every time, with such great flavor. They go with just about every side dish, especially creamy mashed potatoes and green beans (the best!).
Made this tonight. It was a great hit! Very tender and tasty.
Elizabeth

Pork Chops in Pressure Cooker
- Pat pork chops dry and season generously with pork chop seasoning on all sides.
- Set Instant Pot to saute mode. Once hot, add in butter and allow to melt. Add in pork chops and brown on both sides, approximately 2 minutes on each side.
- Remove pork chops and set them aside. Press cancel on your Instant Pot to stop the sauté feature.
- Add chicken broth to your pot, and using a wooden spoon deglaze the bits of pork from the bottom of the pot.
- Add in Worcestershire sauce and mix well.
- Place your pork chops back inside the Instant Pot and secure the lid. Pressure cook for 7 minutes. When 7 minutes is up, allow pressure to naturally release on its own, about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes quick release.
- Set pork chops aside to rest on a serving dish. In a small bowl combine cornstarch and water and mix well. Add slurry into the remaining liquid inside your Instant Pot. Give a good mixing, and let thicken for about 5 minutes.
- Serve gravy over pork chops, and enjoy!
Pork Chop Instant Pot Tips
- Sear pork chops: Searing pork chops for a few minutes until golden prevents them from drying out while cooking. This helps lock in the moisture and keeps the pork chops juicy and tender!
- Bone-in pork chops: This recipe can also use bone-in pork chops. I recommend adding 2 minutes to the cooking time.
- Frozen pork chops: You won’t be able to get a good sear on your pork chops first if you use frozen pork chops, but you can pressure cook them as you normally would. Add 2 minutes of extra cooking time.
Can You Overcook Pork Chops in the Instant Pot?
Yes, you can! Here are my best tips for never overcooking pork chops in the instant pot:
- Follow recommended cooking times closely.
- Use a quick-release method to stop cooking promptly.
- Check the thickness of the pork chops and adjust the cooking time accordingly.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach a safe internal temperature without overcooking (145°F or 63°C).
- Always make sure you cook instant pot pork chops with a liquid.
Instant Pot Pork Chops FAQs

Do you pressure cook on high? How long would you cook thinner boneless porkchops? Thank you!!
Em Beitel says
Hi Hannah! Yes, pressure cook on high! For thinner chops, it depends on how thin they are, but for example, for half-inch boneless pork chops I would do about 4 minutes instead of 7 (leave the rest of the instructions the same). The internal temp should read 145°F when they’re done. Thank you for your question!
Hannah says
Thank you!! Also when searing, do you do high heat, med. high, or medium? Making this tomorrow. 😊
Julie says
Super easy and the pork chops were AMAZING! The whole family loved it. Even my 4 year old!!
Em Beitel says
This is so awesome to hear, Julie! We’re so glad everyone loved it! Have you tried our smothered pork chops yet? They’re really easy too and the sauce is incredible. Thanks for your comment!
Tracey C says
Does anything change if I double the recipe?
Em Beitel says
Hi Tracey! If you’re doubling the recipe, I would recommend cooking it in batches of 4 chops at a time. The pork chops wouldn’t cook correctly if you overlapped them. If you have a large Instant Pot you might be able to fit 1-2 more pork chops in there, but definitely don’t overcrowd the IP. Other than that, no changes.
Rhonda says
Pork chops were delicious, very tender, although I thought the sauce would be a little sweet like sweet and spicy but it wasn’t, just wondering what the purpose of the brown sugar is and if it can just be left out? Thank you, will definitely make again. Oh for someone else’s question of doubling the recipe, I seared 4 at a time, but cooked 8 in my instant pot, 3 were kind of on top and it still came out perfect.
Em Beitel says
Hi Rhonda! I personally like the flavor and crust the brown sugar adds to the pork chops, but if you find it didn’t add anything for you, you could leave it out if you prefer. And thank you for the note about doubling!
B says
Made this tonight. Great flavor but I would omit the crushed pepper flakes. I used 1/2 of what the recipe calls for, but it was still overpowering and too hot for my liking.
Isabel Laessig says
B, I’m very glad to hear you enjoyed the flavor regardless. I hope you love it even more with less spice!
Sandy Ziegler says
Me too, they were very tender and the flavor was good but a little too hot. Next time I’m going to cut back on the pepper flakes.
Sarah says
My 10 year old asked for seconds. He’s NEVER asked for seconds before! Quick, easy and delicious. Thank you!
Isabel Laessig says
Sarah, that is wonderful to hear and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you so much for your comment!
Janice says
Could you add potatoes and carrots at same time you cook the chops?
Thank you
Janice
Isabel Laessig says
Hi Janice! Although I have yet to try this myself, this should work out just fine. I would follow the steps to sear the pork chops as normal, then add the potatoes and carrots to the pot and place the pork chops on top of them. Make sure to use small potatoes cut in half, like golden potatoes, and I would use about 1 cup each for the potatoes and the carrots. To begin with I recommend keeping the timing the same as long as you naturally release the pressure as instructed. Make sure to use a meat thermometer if you aren’t totally sure about the doneness. Please let me know how they turn out, and enjoy!
PENELOPE C MACKENZIE says
Loved this recipe- first time using Instantpot. I added carrots, potatoes and onions.
Isabel Laessig says
So glad you enjoyed it, Penelope! Thank you for your lovely comment!
JK says
For our taste… reduce the salt measurably, & a fraction of the chili pepper flakes. We added extra broth, still too salty and hot. I thought with the brown sugar would be a touch more like an Asian recipe… sweeter. With those modifications I think we would really enjoy
We adore your Hungarian mushroom soup.
Isabel Laessig says
Thank you for your comment! So glad you enjoy the soup. That’s one of my favorites as well.
E Marie Ramczyk says
can I put the potatoes in a basket on top of the chops?
Isabel Laessig says
If you want to cook them separately but at the same time, I would recommend cooking them similarly to how I make my Instant Pot Turkey Breast (link), with the potatoes at the bottom submerged in liquid and the pork chops on a trivet over top. I have yet to try this for myself, but this is how I would do it. That said, you don’t want to overcook the pork, so I would be mindful of the differences in time.
Connie says
This was delicious!!
Isabel Laessig says
So glad you enjoyed it, Connie! Thank you so much!
Melisda says
Very good recipe, but the spices are way TOO much. I wasted so much spice and I had extra pork chops. I saved the recipe, but changed tablespoons to teaspoons in the spice mix. Will use again.
Isabel Laessig says
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the recipe, and I hope you enjoy it even more the next time!
