When I think about the power of a meal, I think about my grandmother. She was an amazing cook, and when my parents immigrated to the U.S., I lived with my grandparents on their farm in Portugal. We didn’t have much, but what we had was enough- fresh eggs from our hens, potatoes we grew ourselves, and love that filled every meal.
One of my favorite meals was homemade French fries with sunny-side-up eggs. The crispy, golden fries dipped into the warm, runny yolk- to me, it was a delicacy. It proved that meals don’t have to be fancy to be delicious. To this day, I can still remember the taste, but more than that, I remember the feeling of sitting at the table, fully present, fully loved.
That’s what Sunday Supper is about. It’s not about spending hours in the kitchen- it’s about making time for each other. Life is busy, and cooking doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple meal, made with love, shared at the table, is all it takes to create lasting memories.
My own kids still say to this day, “I don’t know how you did it, Mom. You cooked for us almost every night while getting all four of us to practice.” The truth is, I didn’t do anything extraordinary- I just made sure we had time together, even if it meant quick and simple meals. Looking back, it wasn’t about what was on the plate, but the moments around the table that mattered most.
This week, I encourage you to gather your family for an easy, comforting meal. No stress, no fuss- just good food and great company. Need inspiration? Here’s a simple recipe to get you started: Pink Pasta. We had this recipe on rotation at least once a week while the kids were growing up and to this day, it is a true family favorite.
You can watch me make it step-by-step in my latest YouTube video- check it out here! ⬇️
Let’s bring families back to the table, one Sunday at a time.
With love and good food,
Isabel
