My family and I love green beans as a side dish for any family dinner. I often make them with dishes like Easy Lemon Butter Chicken or Steak Diane. You just can’t go wrong with fresh green bean recipes!
Making Instant Pot green beans is my new favorite way to get this side dish on the table, fast. They take less than 5 minutes to make, and Garlic Butter Sauce is no joke! It adds so much flavor!
If I’m making dinner and stuck on what to make for a side dish… here’s my answer! This is one of the most unique green bean recipes, and it’s easy to make. I tested this recipe so many times to get the timing just right, and I nailed it!

- Fresh Green Beans – I love using French style green beans for this recipe
- Garlic
- Water
- Parmesan
- Salt and pepper
- Butter
How to Cook Green Beans in Instant Pot
- Add a cup of water to your Instant Pot, then add the green beans. Cook on high pressure for 1 minute.
- Carefully quick release pressure and vent the lid. Drain water, then switch to saute mode. Add butter and melt, then add minced garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in your green beans and saute with the garlic butter sauce. Top with Parmesan cheese, serve, and enjoy.

Pressure cook green beans for 1 minute and then saute for a few extra minutes in the pot.
You do not need a steamer basket to cook my garlicky beans. Place the beans directly in the water and cook them that way. When they’re done, drain the water and return the beans to the pot with butter and garlic. There is no need for a steamer basket.
The secret to this easy green bean recipe is my Garlic Butter Sauce. Topping the green beans with garlic herb butter adds so much flavor. I finish them off with parmesan cheese.

- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 tablespoons butter

Hi Bonnie! You should be able to set your Instant Pot to 0 minutes. It will steam and cook the green beans as it builds and releases pressure without needing a higher cooking time.

If we double the recipe, is there anything that would be different than doubling the ingredients? Would you recommend doubling the water or keeping it to 1 c? I’m excited to make this for Thanksgiving!

Hi Lindsay! I would say you can stick to 1 cup, as the liquid is really just to steam them and make sure the beans don’t burn on the bottom of the pan. Nothing else needs to be adjusted. Enjoy, and thank you so much!
