    BBQ Chicken Pizza

If you know me, you know I’ve been using my air fryer to cook just about anything I can think of since adding it to my kitchen collection. I use it so regularly that when baking a pizza in the oven, I thought, why not cook it in the air fryer instead? And I am so glad I gave it a try!

Air fryer pizza is crispy, perfectly cooked, and so incredibly delicious. This is the best pizza crust you will ever eat in your life! It’s easy to make any type of pizza you like using my air fryer pizza recipe, but my family’s favorite is my BBQ Chicken Pizza.

BBQ chicken is a hit in my household – I make it all of the time for flatbread pizzas, sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, and more. Of course, there is really nothing like a BBQ chicken pizza recipe – it is delicious on pizza!

    Barbecue Chicken Pizza Ingredients

To make homemade BBQ chicken pizza in the air fryer, you can use homemade dough or store-bought pizza dough. If you’re using homemade dough, you will need:

    • warm water
    • sugar
    • dry yeast
    • all-purpose flour
    • olive oil
    • salt

And for the toppings, you will need:

    • Sweet BBQ Sauce
    • shredded mozzarella cheese
    • onions diced
    • chicken breast, cooked, diced; or shredded chicken

My favorite thing to do before making BBQ chicken pizza is to make a big batch of my favorite chicken recipe early on in the week to use the leftover cooked chicken for pizza. Try making one of my easy chicken recipes and prepare extra for pizza:

    • Grilled Chicken Breast
    • Peri Peri Chicken
    • Buttermilk Roast Chicken
    • Slow Cooker Chicken

You can also use rotisserie chicken.

    How to Air Fry Pizza

    1. When ready to cook pizza, preheat air fryer to 380°F. If you’re making homemade dough, do this after proofing your dough.

    How to Make Pizza Dough

    1. Add warm water and yeast to a large mixing bowl; stir, and mix. Allow the yeast to proof for 5 minutes.

    2. After 5 minutes is up, add sugar, flour, olive oil, and salt. Mix until fully incorporated.

    3. Knead with the dough hook for 5 minutes on medium speed if using a stand mixer. If using your hands, transfer the dough ball to a lightly floured flat surface and knead for 10 minutes.

    4. Transfer dough to a lightly oiled bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean towel for 2 hours or until doubled in size.

If using store-bought pizza dough, you can skip these steps.

How to Make BBQ Chicken Pizza

    1. Once your dough is ready, remove the dough ball to a lightly floured surface and divide it into two sections.
    2. Roll using a rolling pin until the dough is 8 inches in diameter.
    3. Using 1 Tablespoon of butter, grease a pie pan. Transfer the dough to the pan and press to flatten it down on the bottom.

    4. With air fryer preheated to 380°F, cook dough plain for 4 minutes.
    5. After 4 minutes is up, remove and top with BBQ sauce, cheese, chicken, onions, and finally more cheese. Cook for another 6 minutes.

    Air Fryer Pizza Recipe Tips

    • An 8-quart air fryer will cook this pizza perfectly. My favorite is this 10-Quart Air Fryer.
    • This recipe creates 4 pizzas. For a single individual-sized pizza, follow the ingredient adjustments in the recipe card notes.
    • You can skip needing to proof the dough by using store-bought pizza dough, but if you have the time, making your own dough is so worthwhile!

    BBQ Chicken Pizza Recipes FAQs

What is BBQ chicken pizza made of?

BBQ chicken pizza uses BBQ sauce, shredded mozzarella, purple onions, and cooked chicken breast for toppings. The dough is a classic pizza dough mixture of warm water, sugar, dry yeast, all-purpose flour, olive oil, and salt.

What BBQ sauce should I use for BBQ chicken pizza?

Use your favorite brand of BBQ sauce to make BBQ chicken pizza, or create your own BBQ sauce at home. I always use my homemade BBQ sauce recipe and highly recommend giving it a try.

How long do you air fry pizza?

The dough for air fryer pizza cooks plain at 380°F for 4 minutes, then you add your toppings. After adding toppings, cook another 6 minutes (still at 380°F). Air fryer pizza cooks for a total of 10 minutes following this method.

    Air Fryer Pizza Recipe Varieties

    • Buffalo Chicken Pizza: Make this a buffalo chicken pizza by using buffalo sauce instead of BBQ Sauce. Try my homemade buffalo sauce, and don’t forget the blue cheese!
    • Pulled Pork Pizza: Try making this air fryer pizza using the same ingredients as my pulled pork pizza flatbread.
    • Cheese Pizza: You can make this a simple cheese pizza by simply using a blend of your favorite pizza cheese and tomato sauce. Try making homemade tomato sauce using my roasted tomatoes.
    • Pepperoni Pizza: Air fry pepperoni pizza by making a cheese pizza layered with pepperoni slices.
    • Margherita Pizza: To make pizza Margherita, use canned San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, and fresh basil to top it with. Crush the tomatoes to use as a sauce. Drizzle with olive oil and sea salt as a finishing touch for amazing flavor.
    • White Pizza: Pizza Bianca is a favorite of mine to make as an air fryer pizza! Mix ricotta with salt, pepper, and dried thyme, and oregano for the sauce layer. Then, top with slices of fresh mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese. Serve with fresh basil or arugula (my favorite!).
