There is so much you can do with leftover pulled pork, but one of my favorite things to make with it is pulled pork sandwiches. If you’re wondering what to make with leftover pulled pork, this is the way to go!
The best part is, pulled pork meat is easy to prepare in your slow cooker. Once you make it, you’ll have enough servings to use for all kinds of shredded pork recipes. Put this one at the top of your list!
Pulled Pork Sandwich Recipe Ingredients
- 1 cup pulled pork – see notes below
- ½ cup coleslaw – or more to taste
- ¼ cup teriyaki sauce – or more to taste; see notes below
- 4 brioche buns
It really is that simple! This will make 4 sandwiches, but you can easily adjust it to make more. These servings are just suggestions, so you can use as much of any ingredient depending on how you like your pulled pork sandwiches.
I use my favorite slow cooker pulled pork recipe to make these sandwiches. It’s a teriyaki pork recipe, which is both tangy and sweet, but you can season the pork differently depending on what you prefer. See the recipe for more ideas on pulled pork seasoning!
For the teriyaki sauce, my pulled pork recipe gives instructions on how to make your own for pulled pork sauce. However, you can also follow our guide on How to Make Teriyaki Sauce if you would like extra servings to use with other recipes, like our Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken.
For coleslaw, I use the dry coleslaw mix, but you can make your own homemade coleslaw or use a prepared coleslaw if you like, and it will complement the pork nicely.
How to Make Coleslaw for Pulled Pork
- For a package of coleslaw, use ½ a cup of either mayonnaise, buttermilk or sour cream.
- Add either 1 Tbsp. honey or 1 Tbsp. sugar, whichever you prefer or have on hand, for sweetness.
- Mix in ¼ cup vinegar – I recommend apple cider vinegar, but you can also use white wine vinegar.
- Just a pinch of salt – no more than ½ a tsp. – and that’s optional!
Making your own coleslaw is very simple. You can make coleslaw with vinegar and either mayonnaise, buttermilk, or sour cream dressing.
The measurements are the same no matter which base ingredient you use, but taste and adjust accordingly to make sure you like the flavor before you put it on your pulled pork sandwiches.
Whichever you have on hand that you like the most is what works best for your pulled pork sandwich recipe!
How to Make Pulled Pork Sandwiches
- Optional: If you are using leftover pulled pork from the fridge, warm your pork on a skillet for a few minutes until warmed through. You can toast your buns, if you want as well. Set the bottom halves of brioche buns (or buns of your choice) on a clean surface.
- Spoon on pulled pork divided between the sandwiches (or more or less to taste), about 4 Tbsp. each sandwich. You can also use tongs.
- Top each sandwich with BBQ sauce or teriyaki sauce for extra flavor.
- Spoon on coleslaw to taste (about 2 Tbsp. or a little less is usually enough).
- Top with your favorite toppings like red onion slices and cilantro! Add the top bun and enjoy!
I love these pulled pork sandwiches for how simple they are to put together. I’ll make my pulled pork recipe ahead of time and any toppings I might want, then put it together in minutes.
It’s perfect for game day! My family never gets tired of a plate of pulled pork sandwiches, especially with crispy potato wedges on the side. If you want to try mixing up the ingredients, take a look at my pulled pork recipe linked above.
You can make these sandwiches sweet, spicy, or any way you’d like! Teriyaki pork is my favorite, but I also love peach BBQ pork. Yum!
What sides go with a pulled pork sandwich recipe?
Pulled pork sandwiches make great game day food, and pair well with other football food type recipes. My family always asks me to make these pulled pork sandwiches with baked crispy potato wedges, so that’s what I like to serve them with!

I’m a little confused about the pulled pork part it says teriyaki sauce but the pulled pork recipe says bbq sauce do I make the pulled pork in the instant pot with teriyaki sauce or bbq? Or is it cooked in bbq sauce but then teriyaki sauce added to it?
Isabel Laessig says
Hi Scott! You can use whichever you prefer for flavoring.
