Homemade Sriracha Mayo Recipe
From sushi restaurants to burger joints, Mayo Sriracha is a popular condiment for a reason! It's good in pretty much everything I've ever tried it in, and I've tried putting it in just about everything. It's delicious as the mayonnaise in potato salad, tastes just incredible on salmon or tuna, brings a spectacular creaminess to crispy pork chops, and is maybe one of the best sauces for french fries out there!
Of course, you've probably seen this spicy mayonnaise sauce being sold at stores. I'm here to tell you, you don't need to spend your money on pre-made sriracha mayo! It's so easy to make with ingredients you probably already have, and it's so much better homemade. I assure you- make it once, and you'll never buy it bottled again!
Why You'll Love this Spicy Mayo Recipe
It's simple, easy, and fast!
With three simple ingredients (plus lots of substitutions!) and practically no prep time, this is the easiest spicy dipping sauce in the world to whip up. Just add everything to a bowl, mix it up until it's evenly mixed, and voila! You can even rest it in the refrigerator to let the flavors meld for an even more delicious sauce.
You can customize the flavor perfectly!
In my experience, store bought sriracha mayo is never quite right. It's always a little too mild or a little too spicy, and never has the complexity of flavor I want. That'sw why I love making my own homemade sriracha mayonnaise. It's done in minutes, and I can taste test it to reach the exact spice level, sweetness, and creaminess I desire!
There are so many great variations!
Making a Mexican dish? Add some lime and cilantro! Looking for a dip for sweet potato fries? Swap out the mayonnaise for Greek yogurt! Serving it as a spicy sauce for salmon? Add a dash of honey to perfectly complement the fish. There are so many great ways to customize this sauce!
Sriracha Mayonnaise Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: You can use any type of mayo, from vegan mayo to Japanese mayonnaise such as Kewpie. You can even use Greek yogurt!
- Sriracha Sauce: The star of the show! Make sure you're using sriracha, not hot sauce. It has a distinctly unique flavor.
- Chili Garlic sauce: Often sold in the same location as Sriracha, chili garlic sauce has a unique zingy garlic flavor that takes this sriracha mayo recipe over the edge into something truly unique and special! If you don't have any, you can use a raw garlic clove, or even garlic powder.
- Optional Variations:
- Lemon juice
- Lime juice
- White vinegar
- Honey
- Chili crisp
- Gochujang
I love changing this sauce up depending on what I'm serving it with! For fish tacos and other Mexican inspired dishes I like adding lime juice and cilantro. For rice bowls and stir fry, I prefer a little extra vinegar and honey!

What to Serve with Sriracha Mayo
Mayo Sriracha Sauce Expert Tips
- Make this sauce ahead of time. Most sauces get much more flavorful and intense once they've had time to rest in the fridge, and sriracha sauce with mayo is no exception. I recommend resting it for at least 2 hours, but ideally, make it at the beginning of the week and use it all week!
- Add variations as you serve it! I like making the most simple form of this recipe to start with, then adding in variations like lime juice, herbs, and spices when I'm serving it, based on what I'm serving. That way, you can keep customizing the base for each meal.
- Adjust the thinness with oil or vinegar, not water. Water will just dilute the flavor, while oil and vinegar will make it taste even better.
- You can make your own mayo using egg yolks and oil, but store bought mayonnaise is great, too.
Storing and Reheating Creamy Sriracha
- Refrigerator: Store sriracha sauce with mayo in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one month! I like storing it in a clear mason jar so it's nice and pretty, but you can also store it in an empty squeeze bottle for super convenient drizzling on sandwiches, sushi rolls, and more.
- Freezer: You cannot freeze spicy mayo, as the mayonnaise will split terribly and make a clumpy, yucky mess.
- Heating: Because mayonnaise is made from emulsified oil, it does not heat well at all. Enjoy this sauce cold or spread it on a hot sandwich only after heating the rest of the sandwich up.
Creamy Sriracha FAQ
If you want to avoid eggs, you can use Greek yogurt or even sour cream instead of mayonnaise. You may need to add a little extra honey or sugar to even out the tang, and thin it out with extra milk, oil, or lemon juice.
Pretty much everything is great with this spicy mayo recipe, but my favorites are all things seafood, potatoes, rice, and vegetables. Fish tacos are also a classic, and I love using it as a salad dressing for Asian inspired salads like Asian Coleslaw or Vietnamese Beef Salad.
