In my house, I wouldn't dream of serving potatoes without this fry sauce on the side. Trust me, you'll want to make it every time you cook up a batch of air fryer fries or potato wedges, especially if they are coated in our french fry seasoning!

Is fry sauce a Utah thing?

Fry sauce is a dipping sauce made for fries that originates from Utah, but it quickly became a favorite in Idaho and Oregon, too. It's rare to see french fries served in these states without this sauce on the side! Nowadays, you can find it pretty much anywhere, but you might not always see it referred to as fry sauce. For example, you might also see people calling it a ketchup mayo sauce.

What is fry sauce made of?

The most basic fry sauce you can make is a simple mix of ketchup and mayonnaise, but there is much more you can add to it. In the case of my recipe, I wanted to make a spicy fry sauce recipe with the inclusion of sriracha and red pepper flakes. A little bit of Worcestershire sauce adds some additional tang and body to the flavor. Some recipes include pickle juice!

A little bit of spice and the Worcestershire sauce is what sets my fry sauce recipe apart from the rest. The flavors in this dipping sauce recipe are out-of-this-world delicious! It's so good, you'll want to dip everything in it!

What does fry sauce taste like?

It's creamy and smooth, a little bit sweet, a little bit salty, with lots of tangy spice. Some people compare its flavor to Thousand Island Dressing or Russian Dressing, but it's customizable and unique. Fry sauce is the most incredible condiment. You can pair it with everything from your fries, to onion rings, chicken nuggets, sandwiches, and more.

Sriracha Dipping Sauce Ingredients

• Mayonnaise: Use your favorite creamy mayo for this recipe. I personally love using a mayo that's a little bit on the sweet side because it complements the other flavors well.
• Ketchup: The main ingredient along with the mayonnaise. You can use your favorite ketchup brand for this recipe.
• Sriracha*: Adds the perfect kick of spice to this sauce! If you don't have sriracha, you could use another variation of hot sauce for spice. Or, if you'd rather not have any spice, you can leave it out.
• Worcestershire Sauce: Adds tang and so much additional flavor to the sauce. If you're gluten-free and need to avoid gluten, either look for a gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, or replace it with a squeeze of lemon juice instead.
• Paprika: This is such a versatile spice that improves the flavor of everything you add it to, including this sauce. I use regular paprika, but if you only have another type on hand, feel free to use that.
• Sea Salt: I use Maldon Sea Salt Flakes or Himalayan pink sea salt for this recipe, and I recommend it. If you don't have either of those, I recommend kosher salt rather than table salt.
• Red Pepper Flakes*: I love the kick red pepper flakes add to this sauce, though cayenne pepper could also be used. If you want to cut down on the spice, though, you could leave them out and use black pepper, instead.

*Family Foodie Tip: You can adjust the amount of sriracha and red pepper flakes, depending on how spicy you like the dip. Add a little at first, taste test, and then add more if you want it a bit spicier!

How to use Spicy Fry Dipping Sauce

How long is spicy fry sauce good for?

Store the fry sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. Give it a stir before serving, then enjoy! Note: Do not freeze this sauce, as it will separate.
